We’re Here For You In An Emergency
Did you know that we provide emergency dentistry services here in our offices? An oral health emergency, like any health emergency, needs to be dealt with immediately.
What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is an injury or infection that must be treated right away. Dr. Tomase and the team provide after-hours care, so you don’t have to wait until the next day (or an entire weekend) before getting the care you need. Not treating a broken tooth, toothache, or a severely bitten tongue right away can lead to major complications, not to mention living with pain and discomfort until you see the dentist.
What to Do in an Emergency
The first step is to immediately call Dr. Tomase and his team so that they can schedule your emergency appointment and give you specific instructions. Here is some advice on what to do until you get to us, and we can take over your care.
Broken Tooth
If a piece has broken off a tooth and you have the piece, rinse it and bring it with you to your appointment. Use ice to keep swelling down and take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain medication.
Knocked-Out Tooth
If you still have the tooth, rinse it carefully but try not to disturb the root. If you can, carefully try to replace the tooth in the socket and bite down to hold it in place. If you can’t do that, store it in a glass of milk or saliva and bring it to your appointment.
Bitten Tongue or Lip
If you have severely bitten your tongue or lip, you may need stitches. Rinse your mouth to prevent infection and apply pressure with a clean cloth to stop the bleeding. If the bleeding doesn’t stop, go to the nearest emergency room for treatment.
Tooth Pain
A severe toothache can be a sign of infection. Apply an ice pack to the area until your emergency visit. Don’t take any pain relievers until Dr. Tomase has a chance to determine the source.
We hope you won’t need to, but do not hesitate to call Dr. Tomase and his team in the event of a dental emergency. We will do everything we can to take care of your oral health here in our office located in Toledo, OH.
